Selection Process

  • Stage 1 – Preliminary Screening/Shortlisting: Applications will be screened by a Screening Committee based on eligibility criteria
  • Stage 2 – Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates must submit and verify documents supporting their claims regarding age, category, qualification, experience, etc.
  • Stage 3 – Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for interview
  • Shortlisting Criteria: RBI Services Board reserves the right to limit number of candidates called for Interview by enhancing minimum educational qualifications/minimum work experience requirement or through any other appropriate method
  • Important Note: Merely fulfilling minimum requirements does not automatically entitle any candidate for interview. Final decision for shortlisting lies with RBI Services Board
  • Interview Call Letter: Shortlisted candidates will be issued Interview Call Letter through email (documentsrbisb@rbi.org.in) only. No Call Letter will be sent by post or any other mode
  • Candidature Status: Candidature will be subject to submission and verification of documents
  • Screening for Large Applications: In case of significantly large number of applications, Bank may screen and shortlist reasonable number of candidates for interview
  • Compensation Discussion: Candidates must indicate anticipated monthly compensation (within advertised range) along with previous employer compensation details before interview. However, any compensation discussion during interview may not be construed as offer of appointment
  • Final Decision: In all matters regarding eligibility, interviews, assessment, prescribing minimum qualifying standards for shortlisting and interview, Board’s decision shall be final and binding.

RBI Lateral Recruitment General Information/Instructions

  • Type of Appointment: Full-time contract basis
  • Contract Tenure: Initial tenure of three years, extendable further on mutual agreement, up to two more years. Extension based on performance and Bank’s decision (final)
  • Notice Period: Either party can terminate contract by giving one month’s notice during first year and three months’ notice after completion of first year
  • Place of Posting: Generally, Mumbai. Bank may post selected candidates in any centre in India. Housing allowance will be revised based on centre of posting
  • Residential Accommodation: Bank will not provide residential accommodation to contract appointees
  • Leave Entitlement: 30 days per calendar year, credited half-yearly (January & July), calculated pro-rata. Intervening holidays not reckoned as leave. Unutilized leave cannot be carried forward. Leave under statutory provisions (Maternity Benefit Act, 1961, Representation of People Act, 1951) permitted. Absence beyond eligibility treated as leave without pay with pro-rata deduction
  • Working Hours: Normal working hours of Bank as applicable to regular employees. However, working hours/days not confined to regular office hours/days due to nature of tasks
  • Conduct: Contract appointees governed by Scheme of Lateral Recruitment, Code of Conduct, and any other instructions issued by Bank from time to time
  • Knowledge/Skills Upgrade: Contract appointees shall upgrade knowledge/skills periodically and share knowledge/skills among Bank’s officials
  • Nationality: Candidate must be: (i) Citizen of India, or (ii) Subject of Nepal, or (iii) Subject of Bhutan, or (iv) Tibetan refugee (came to India before January 1, 1962), or (v) Person of Indian origin from specified countries. Categories (ii) to (v) require certificate of eligibility from Government of India
  • Government Service Candidates: All candidates working in Government Service/Government undertakings must submit undertaking that they have informed their employer about applying for the post. Proper discharge certificate required at joining
  • Relaxation Requests: Any request for relaxation in eligibility criteria will not be entertained at any stage of recruitment
  • Experience Certificate Requirements: Candidates must produce up-to-date full Experience Certificate indicating: (i) nature of duties, (ii) dates and duration, (iii) level/position, (iv) responsibilities. Alternative documents may be considered on merit at Board’s discretion
  • Document Upload: Candidates required to upload certificates supporting age, category (SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/EWS), educational qualification, and experience in Online Application Form
  • Category Certificates: Candidates must possess requisite certificates (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwBD/EWS) in prescribed format on or before closing date (January 06, 2026). Certificates will be verified at Interview. Candidates without requisite certificate should apply under General (UR) category
  • OBC Certificate: OBC candidates must produce OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate based on income for FY 2024-2025, 2023-2024, 2022-2023, issued on/after April 01, 2025 but not later than January 06, 2026. OBC candidates in ‘Creamy Layer’ not entitled to reservation and should indicate category as ‘General (GEN)’
  • EWS Certificate: EWS candidates must possess Income and Asset Certificate for FY 2024-25 valid for Year 2025-26, on or before January 06, 2026. EWS vacancies tentative and subject to Government directives and litigation. Appointment provisional subject to certificate verification
  • PwBD Certificate: PwBD candidates must possess latest permanent disability certificate issued by Competent Authority as per Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. Temporary disability certificates not accepted. Certificate must be issued prior to January 06, 2026
  • Multiple Applications: Candidates should submit only single application for one post. If multiple applications submitted, only last completed application with higher Registration ID (RID) will be entertained. Fee paid against one RID not adjusted against another RID
  • Correspondence: Board will not enter into any correspondence about candidature. All communication through email (documentsrbisb@rbi.org.in) only. No communication by post or any other mode
  • Email ID/Mobile: Candidates must keep email ID/mobile number alive for receiving intimations/correspondence. Check emails/SMS regularly
  • Canvassing Prohibited: Any canvassing by or on behalf of candidates or bringing political/other outside influence shall be considered as disqualification
  • Disqualification: Candidates may be disqualified/debarred for: obtaining support through illegal means, impersonation, submitting fabricated documents, making false statements, suppressing material information, harassing Board staff, violating instructions, or attempting/abetting any such acts. May also face criminal prosecution, permanent/temporary debarment from Board examinations, dismissal from service
  • Penalty Procedure: No penalty imposed without: (i) giving candidate opportunity to make representation in writing, and (ii) considering representation submitted within allowed period
  • RBI Employees: All Bank employees can apply if fulfilling eligibility criteria. If selected, must resign/retire from Bank before taking contractual appointment. No claim for reappointment with Bank. Cannot retain Bank accommodation after resignation/retirement
  • Community Reservation: Candidate eligible for community reservation only if caste included in Central Government list of reserved communities. No change in category (reserved to general or vice-versa) after application submission. Similar principle for PwBD categories
  • Jurisdiction: Any resultant dispute shall be subject to sole jurisdiction of Courts situated at Mumbai only
